Conversational Spanish Center language training program is divided into 3 levels:

We will administer a brief verbal assessment before you begin your classes to ensure that you are placed in the correct level. Active participation of the students is achieved with a variety of interactive materials, which nurtures a rich learning environment and promotes fluency.

 

 

Beginners
At the beginners’ level, the focus is on learning how to speak rather than on grammar. However, we cover simple tenses – Present, Past, Imperfect and Future. Additionally, the following areas are also covered at the beginners’ level:

  • Definite and indefinite articles
  • Agreement of number and gender
  • Possessive adjectives
  • Demonstrative pronouns
  • Adjectives and adverbs
  • Ser vs. Estar
  • Present, past and future progressive tenses
  • Immediate future tense and past immediate tense
  • Direct and indirect pronouns
  • Comparatives and superlatives
  • Past participles used as adjectives
  • Reflexive verbs
  • Imperatives
  • Idiomatic expressions

 

 

Intermediate
This level reinforces and builds upon the foundation that the student built at the beginners’ level. The course reviews and expands on many of the areas covered in the Beginners level, and in addition, the following areas are also covered:

  • Conditional
  • Present perfect tense
  • Pluperfect tense
  • Future perfect tense
  • Conditional perfect tense
  • Passive voice
  • Present & imperfect subjunctive
  • Present perfect & pluperfect subjunctive
  • Idiomatic expressions

 

 

Advanced
Given the collaborative nature of the teaching approach employed at this level, the class program covers the spectrum of grammatical and conversational areas. An emphasis is placed on understanding the sociological, economic, and historical aspects of Latin America.
The program at this level is very flexible and does not adhere to any specific topic areas other than those deemed hindrances to full Spanish fluency.
